Fire Rescue Drill

On Monday April 15, 2013 St. Tammany Fire Districts 1, 7, & 11 from Slidell and Pearl River took part in a multi-agency drill at the Lafarge mining facility in Pearl River.  The purpose of the drill was to simulate a trauma injury and how firefighters and Lafarge personnel would work together to rescue a victim.  The Lafarge mining facility utilizes hoppers and conveyor belts that are 30 to 40 feet high to mine for the gravel that is used in concrete.  Due to the height of the equipment, any accidents could result in traumatic injuries for its personnel.  Firefighters are trained in high angle rescue which would be needed should an accident occur at the top of these platforms.

Singing in the ... Pokey?

Guess you have heard about X-Factor contestant who was arrested for stealing a car in Slidell after he was green-lighted to go on to New York next week for the show...

From Slidell Police:

Officer Michael Giardina spotted the stolen vehicle on Fremaux Avenue, which was being driven by Wilson, and attempted to stop it. Wilson refused to stop for the officer, and led Slidell Police on a high speed chase through the city; going down Fremaux Avenue to Front Street, then down Gause Boulevard to Interstate-10.  During the chase, Wilson exceeded speeds in excess of 75 miles per hour through the city, rammed a police car, and showed no signs of giving up as the chase made its way onto Interstate-10.  Officer Giardina took this opportunity to perform a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, or what is commonly referred to as the "Pit Maneuver", on the stolen vehicle.  Ironically, the chase ended where it started, and the stolen vehicle came to a rest in a grassy area on Interstate 10 near Fremaux Avenue.  Wilson attempted to flee from the vehicle after the crash, but was quickly apprehended by Slidell Police.

At this time, it is unknown if Wilson will be out of jail in time to attend next week's auditions of "The X Factor".

Big deal or not so much?

Justin Bieber embarrassed himself after a visit Friday to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. On the Facebook page of the museum, dedicated to the young Holocaust victim, somebody wrote a post about the pop star’s visit, explaining that Bieber and a group of friends and guards stayed for over an hour. As he left, he reportedly wrote a note in the museum’s guest book - 'Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.'"

Needless to say the note did not sit well with some, with one Facebook poster writing, "Anne Frank a belieber? That is by far one of the most self-serving things I've ever read, like ever."

A source close to Justin later told TMZ that during his hour visit, he learned that Frank was into pop culture, which is why he made the “Belieber” comment.

What do you think? Big deal? Or not so much?
