Local Softball

Fontainebleau's Lady Bulldogs softball returned to their winning ways yesterday downing the Covington Lady Lions 5-2 on the road. Fontainebleau, 9-2, moved to 3-1 in the District 6-5A race. Fontainebleau's Shelby Rome upped her record to 6-1 pitching a complete game. Rome tossed a five-hitter, posting five strikeouts.

Rome, Brooke bergeron and Alivia Soto ripped run scoring doubles for the Lady Bulldogs. Fontainebleau jumped out to an early 3-0 lead off Covington's Madison LaRocca, who was tagged with the loss as she surrendered five earned runs on just five hits.

The 2014 Spring Challenge takes place today and tomorrow. The SSA Spring Classic being co-hosted by St. Scholastica Academy and Fontaienbleau High will feature 12 teams, including a number of Northshore area schools with the Doves and Fontainebleau Lady Bulldogs hosting games for the 12 team field. Other Northshore schools included Lakeshore, Northlake Christian School  and Pearl River. The SSA Spring Classic action gets underway this afternoon at 3:30. In the opener at SSA's field, the Lakeshore Lady Titans take on the NCS Lady Wolverines followed host SSA versus Springfield at 5:30, closing out with Dominican taking on Pearl River at 7:30. Three games will also be played at the Fontainebleau Field. This afternoon's 3:30 contest features Cabrini against Chalmette. Fontainebleau squares off with Catholic of Pointe Coupee at 5:30, closing out with Pope John Paul II battling Vandebilt Catholic at 7:30. Six games are on tap at each location on Saturday with action getting underway at 9 o'clock. So if you're looking for some quality softball action the place to be is the SSA Spring Classic being held this afternoon and all day tomorrow at SSA and Fontainebleau High.
