In college baseball, the 15-9 Southeastern Lions
host the Houston Baptist Huskies in a 3-game Southland Conference series. The Lions, 4-2, in conference play send junior right-hander Andro Cutura to the hill in tonight's 6 o'clock opener. Cutura, a Pearl River High product, has posted a 3-1 record with a solid 2.23 earned run average. Cutura has started six games, recording one complete game. He's pitched 40 and a third innings, registering a team-high 45 strikeouts, while issuing 10 walks. Opponents are batting .252 against Cutura.
I received a text from Andro's mom, Denise, this morning and she wanted me to give him a Lake 94.7 "Shout Out", wishing him good luck in tonight's scheduled start versus Houston Baptist. Denise texted, "his family and friends are so proud of him." Then Denise went on to wish me a beautiful 'Rainy' day. So good luck to Andro and his Lions' teammates in tonight's game weather permitting of course. Andro Cutura is the older brother of Christina and Marlena, members of the Pope John Paul II Lady Jaguars Division III state soccer champions, coached by the Metro Coach of the Year, J. B. Mahoney.
Sophomore starter Tate Scioneaux, who is 5-0 with an effective 1.66 ERA, takes the hill in tomorrow's second game scheduled for 2 o'clock. The SLU-Houston Baptist series ends Sunday with a 1 o'clock contest with junior Kyle Keller, 2-1, getting the starting nod.
