St Paul over NS
St. Paul's Wolves tallied early and often last night rolling past the Northshore Panthers 17-2 in District 6-5A action on the strength of three-run homers by Handsome Monica, an Arizona commitment, and Hunter Romero. Bradley Yaeger delivered an RBI double and Tyler St. Philip banged a two-run single top put the Wolves up 6-0 in the first inning following Monica's 3-run blast. The Wolves notched another run in the second and Northshore answered with a single run in the bottom half to make it 7-1. Northshore's Hunter Campbell drove home Dane Pederson with a fielder's choice ground out. Northsore's Parker Morris tripled in the third inning and scored on a Pederson RBI single. St. Paul's led 9-2 entering the fourth inning before exploding for 8 runs to put the game away. The Wolves sent 11 hitters to the plate with Romero going 2-2 with his three-run blast and a single as St. Paul's rolled. St. Paul's 3-1 in District 6-5A play hosts the Covington Lions tonight at 6:30.

SSA and ST Pauls: Champs!!!!
St. Tammany Parish known for being a soccer rich area got richer over the weekend with the St. Scholastica Academy Doves and coach Mike Ortner bringing home the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Divison I girls' state title and the St. Paul's Wolves coached by Sean Moser delivering the Division I boys' state crown over the weekend participating at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans.
SSA, the No. 1 seed, made its sixth consecutive trip to the championship match, and the Doves put three years of runner-up frustration behind them, earning a thrilling 1-0 victory over No. 2 seed Lafayette on a game-winning goal by senior Kate Gutterman in a rematch of last year's championship contest. Gutterman's blast came with 3-minutes remaining in the second 10-minute overtime. SSA's Maegen "Ish" Due, who was voted the Outstanding Player in the championship match primarily for her defensive work on Lafayette senior Alexcia Alexander keeping her and her Mighty Lions teammates off the board. Due was called upon to take a free kick from about 35 yards out and she got off a perfectly placed laser toward the back post and found the foot of Gutterman, who polished off the eventual game-winner. Following Gutterman's blast, the SSA defense did the rest shutting down Lafayette's attack to secure the championship for the fired up Doves.
The Doves' defense was absolutely spectacular during their playoff run not allowing a goal in the five playoff victories. Senior goal keeper Elena Naccari and her defensive teammates sparkled in the championship victory. The two teams met in last year's championship contest with Lafayette winning it 2-1. SSA finishes the season 23-2 and will proudly place their newly garnered championship trophy next to their 2007, 2009 and 2010 championship hardware at their Covington campus. The high-flying Doves will be my guest this Thursday night on Northshore Sports broadcasting from 7-8 at WOW Cafe on Highway 190 in Covington. In the boys' Division I finale, the 24-1-1 St. Paul's Wolves, the No. 2 seed, had to be patient waiting through a 1-hour and 20-minute delay due to a lighting outage following the SSA victory over Lafayette. The delay didn't hamper the St. Paul's performance as the Wolves took care of business with a superlative outing garnering a 3-0 victory over No. 8 seed Grace King. St. Paul's junior Eric Guin delivered two goals and was named the Outstanding Player, while Cameron Robinson, the Wolves' top goal scorer also found the range to spearhead the victory. St. Paul's dominated the time of possession and the Wolves's defense was absolutely spectacular throughout turning away the Grace King offense repeatedly, allowing just one quality shot on goal, which was turned back by junior keeper Colin Hanley. St. Paul's defense only allowed one goal in their playoff run. St. Paul's got rid of the sour taste of being the Division I state runner up for the last two years. Grace King finished 26-3-4.

Local highschool soccer playoff action
A couple of St. Tammany Parish boys' soccer teams continued to make their mark in the LHSAA state playoffs winning in yesterday's quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals, which need to be played by this Saturday.
In Division I, the No. 2 seed St. Paul's Wolves were victorious stopping No. 7 Captain Shreve 4-1 last night at Hunter Stadium on a second-half hat trick by Cameron Robinson, the Wolves' leading scorer. St. Paul's Davis Neitzschman netted a goal in the ninth minute to give the Wolves the early advantage. Grant Hebert and Byron Morgan were credited with excellent ball movement setting up Neitzschman. St. Paul's coach Sean Moser named Christian Caragliano, the Wolves' MVP. The Captain Shreve Gators tallied the equalizer in the 30th minute. The Wolves' 24-1-1 will battle the No. 6 Jesuit Blue Jays Saturday at Hunter Stadium with the game time still to be determined. Jesuit, the defending Division I champions, after they secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over St. Paul's in last year's championship tilt. St. Paul's and Jesuit have established themselves as the two premier boys Division I soccer clubs in the state representing the Northshore and the Southshore as they have met for the coveted state championship for the last three years. The Blue Jays have bragging rights winning two of the three state championship matches. Saturday's rivalry semifinal match has the makings of being a special encounter for both clubs as they try to advance to the championship match scheduled for Friday February 28th at Tad Gormley Stadium.
In Division III quarterfinal action, the No. 2 seed Northlake Christian School Wolverines kept their championship hopes alive earning a hard-fought 1-0 victory over No. 7 Holy Savior Menard on a goal by Mason Morise. NCS, 20-3-2, advances to the semis, and will host No. 6 Newman at Wolverine Stadium. NCS coach Nick Chetta named his back line as the defensive players of the match with Josh "Catfish" Landry posting the Wolverines' third consecutive playoff shutout, registering three saves on free kicks. Coach Chetta said, his team still has "unfinished business" reference getting back to the state championship game.

Lakeshore coach Andrew Knock named Ethan Leger his top defender, while keeper Jordan Hall netted three saves. The Titans, who finish the season 14-5-3, will be appearing tomorrow night with their head coach on Northshore Sports broadcasting live from WOW Cafe in Covington. Join me for tomorrow night's show, which airs from 7-8 p.m.

St Pauls District Champs
In Friday boys high school soccer action the St. Paul's Wolves clinched the District 6-I crown rolling past Slidell 8-1 with Cameron Robinson leading the way with a sterling performance netting three goals and two assists. Austin Groeneveld tallied two goals, while Christian Caragliano, Eric Guin and Andrew Brouillette added one goal each. Guin added an assist, while Tyler Murphy and Trevor Watkins were also credited with assists for the Wolves.

St Pauls Golf
The Wolves picked up a Division 1 State Championship in golf ....
They shot a 290 on day 1, followed by a 305, for a 595 team total, winning by eight strokes. Brandon Pierce, an LSU signee, tied for 2nd, shooting rounds of 71 and 73, two strokes behind Logan Hayes. Congrats Wolves!
