LSU's Tigers played sluggish football for the majority of the game Friday in Death Valley, but managed to pull out a stunning 31-27 victory over the struggling Arkansas Razorbacks. LSU starting quarterback Zach Mettenberger suffered a knee injury, which thrust freshman Anthony Jennings into the game with the Tigers trailing. Jennings did his magic leading the Tigers on an improbable 99-yard game winning drive, hitting
Travin Dural on a 49-yard scoring strike propelling LSU to a 9-3 regular season mark and 5-3 in the SEC, while the Razorbacks closed out 3-9 and a dismal 0-8 in Conference play.
Elsewhere, previously unbeaten, No. 1 ranked Alabama and Nick Saban saw their superb season slip away as the No. 4 ranked Auburn Tigers upended the Crimson Tide 34-28 on Chris Davis' 100-yard missed field goal return for the game-winner on the game's final play. Davis returned a missed 57-yard field goal attempt, taking it the distance, pushing Auburn to 11-1 and 7-1 in the SEC, derailing the two-time defending national champion Alabama squad, which is also 11-1 and 7-1 in conference play. Auburn will face Missouri in the SEC Championship game.
