PJP Basketball

Pope John Paul II Jaguars downed Mt. Hermon 54-44 Friday at home to earn the District 8-2A basketball title. PJP's Joe Feraci topped the Jags with 23 points. Feraci also added three assists and two rebounds, while Marcus Rome delivered eight points with 10 rebounds. Codey Davie chipped in with eight points and four rebounds. PJP II, 11-13 overall, finished 6-2 in district play tied with Northlake Christian School, but the Jaguars win the district crown, by virtue of the tie breaker with the Wolverines.
NCS, downed Pine 51-43 Thursday with Josh O'Rear finishing with 20 points and 13 rebounds fashioning one of his patented double-doubles.  Matt Miller contributed 14 points, while Matt Whelan totaled seven points for the Wolverines. NCS finished 6-2 in the district race with PJP II, but finishes second based on the tie breaker with the Jaguars.

The Lady Jags on Northshore Sports







Mike P tried his hand at a selfie with his guests the Lady Jags on Northshore Sports last week. Thanks to Alexis Molero for the help and thanks to the ladies from PJP II for visiting with us on the Lake 94.7. The Lady Jags win two on the road over this weekend, with Jessica Mahoney netting five goals. The girls are not 13-1-1. We wish you continued success with your year.

Lakeshore defeats Pope John Paul II in boys basketball

 
Lakeshore's Titans downed Pope John Paul II  53-46 Wednesday night on the road with LaQuincy
Lewis and Ryan Jones doing the offensive damage. The Titans moved to 5-1 behind Lewis, who netted
16 points followed by Jones with 15. Sean Ellington topped the Titans with 12 rebounds, while senior point guard Matt Larroquette dished off seven assists.

Archbishop Hannan and Pope John Paul II appearing on Northshore Sports



 

Northshore Sports hits the airwaves tonight from our title sponsor location the WOW Cafe located
in the Clarion Inn & Suites on Highway 190 tonight from 6:30 to 8. Tonight's primary topic will be LHSAA playoff football with guests the Archbishop Hannan Hawks and the Pope John Paul II Jaguars. The two teams, District 7-2A rivals, are squaring off in the second round of the Division III state football playoffs. Archbishop Hannan, the No. 4 seed, travels to No. 12 seed PJP II tomorrow night for a 7 o'clock encounter at Lester Latino Field in Slidell. The Hannan-PJP II game is the Lake 94.7 featured game of the week tomorrow so join Matt Penix and I for the play-by-play call. The pregame show airs 6:45.
Archbishop Hannan, 9-2, advanced cruising past No. 13 Westminster Christian, 61-20, while PJP II, the No. 12 seed, earned a quality 22-6 road victory over No. 5 seed Holy Savior Menard.

Four St. Tammany Parish football teams advance in state playoffs


Four St. Tammany Parish football teams got the job done Friday night picking up victories in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association football playoffs under the new playoff system.
In our Lake 94.7 broadcast game of the week first-year head coach Greg Salter helped lead his Fighting Lions to their first playoff victory since 2001. Covington, the No. 14 seed, played ferocious defense downing the visiting No. 19 Airline Vikings 48-13 at Jack Salter Stadium.
The Lions' defense generated seven turnovers including five interceptions and two fumble recoveries. George Brister returned a pick-six 100 yards, whole Jeremy Haar made his way into the end zone with a 62-yard return and Andrew Breeland also scored on a 38-yard interception.
The Lions advance to the regional round and travel to No. 3 East Ascension, a 42-21 winner over McKinley.
Three teams representing District 7-2A advanced in Division III, which consists of 12 teams under the new playoff format.
Unbeaten Northlake Christian School, 11-0, the No. 3 seed cruised past No. 14 Redemptorist
49-14 at home behind Josh O'Rear's three passing TDs and two rushing scores. O'Rear passed for
177 yards, while Taylor Mussachia rushed for 133 yards with a five-yard TD run, giving him 21 tallies for the season.
Archbishop Hannan, the No. 4 seed, blew past No. 13 Westminster Christian 61-20 sparked by Korey
Zeigler and Michael Froeba. Froeba scored three TDs and rushed for 167 yards, while Zeigler hit
Daniel Hollander for a 21-yard score and rushed for two touchdowns, covering 15 and 51 yards.
Hannan, travels to district foe, Pope John Paul II this week for a regional round tilt. The Jaguars, the No. 12 seed, surprised No. 5 Holy Savior Menard 22-6 to advance. The Jags rushed for 5-1 yards in the game sparked by Chance Caire, who finished with 286 yards rushing and a TD. Joe Feraci contributed 186 yards and two scores for victorious PJP II.
