Four St. Tammany Parish football teams advance in state playoffs

Four St. Tammany Parish football teams got the job done Friday night picking up victories in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association football playoffs under the new playoff system.
In our Lake 94.7 broadcast game of the week first-year head coach Greg Salter helped lead his Fighting Lions to their first playoff victory since 2001. Covington, the No. 14 seed, played ferocious defense downing the visiting No. 19 Airline Vikings 48-13 at Jack Salter Stadium.
The Lions' defense generated seven turnovers including five interceptions and two fumble recoveries. George Brister returned a pick-six 100 yards, whole Jeremy Haar made his way into the end zone with a 62-yard return and Andrew Breeland also scored on a 38-yard interception.
The Lions advance to the regional round and travel to No. 3 East Ascension, a 42-21 winner over McKinley.
Three teams representing District 7-2A advanced in Division III, which consists of 12 teams under the new playoff format.
Unbeaten Northlake Christian School, 11-0, the No. 3 seed cruised past No. 14 Redemptorist
49-14 at home behind Josh O'Rear's three passing TDs and two rushing scores. O'Rear passed for
177 yards, while Taylor Mussachia rushed for 133 yards with a five-yard TD run, giving him 21 tallies for the season.
Archbishop Hannan, the No. 4 seed, blew past No. 13 Westminster Christian 61-20 sparked by Korey
Zeigler and Michael Froeba. Froeba scored three TDs and rushed for 167 yards, while Zeigler hit
Daniel Hollander for a 21-yard score and rushed for two touchdowns, covering 15 and 51 yards.
Hannan, travels to district foe, Pope John Paul II this week for a regional round tilt. The Jaguars, the No. 12 seed, surprised No. 5 Holy Savior Menard 22-6 to advance. The Jags rushed for 5-1 yards in the game sparked by Chance Caire, who finished with 286 yards rushing and a TD. Joe Feraci contributed 186 yards and two scores for victorious PJP II.
Good luck to our remaining four St. Tammany Parish football teams in their quest for  possible state titles.
