LHSAA volleyball playoffs move to quarterfinals at the Pontchartrain Center


The LHSAA volleyball state playoffs featured a number of regional round contests yesterday.
The No. 9 seeded Fontainebleau Lady Bulldogs, fought off a tough No. 8 seed Dominican squad,
winning, 26-24, 32-30 and 25-21 on the road to advance to the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.
Fontainebleau, the Division I state runner up, now faces off with No. 1 seed St. Joseph's Academy Thursday at 6:10 p.m. on Court 1.
Mandeville's Lady Skippers, the No. 15 seed, bowed out of the playoffs falling to No. 2 seed and defending Division I state champ Mt. Carmel, 25-16, 25-12, 25-18. Mandeville's Caroline Hasse finished with 13 kills and 11 digs, followed by Sam Gomez with six kills. Sarah Rinaudo collected 20 assists and Ali LeBlanc totaled 11 digs. Jody Walker's Lady Skippers finished the season at 20-19.
Northshore's season came to a close yesterday as the No. 12 Lady Panthers were defeated by No. 5
St. Amant in four games, 25-14, 21-25, 25-17, 25-15. Danny Davis' club finished with a 20-16 record. NHS' Kacie Brandt topped the Lady Panthers with 13 kills followed by Hailey Kirkpatrick with 11 kills and 25 digs. Jessica Dicharia pulled up 15 digs, while Hannah Epperley contributed 14 digs with 29 assists.
In Division II, the No. 2 seed Lakeshore Lady Titans swept No. 15 Academy of Our Lady, 25-23, 25-14, 26-24. Lakeshore's Erin Schenck led the way with eight kills followed by Skylar Pepper and Raven Daniels with six kills each. Pepper also served five aces. Kacey Freeman added 21 digs and Madison Grapp totaled 20 assists.
Lakeshore, 35-6, moves on to the Pontchartrain Center and faces No. 7 Sam Houston on Thursday night at 8 o'clock.
The No. 5 seed St. Scholastica Academy Doves turned back a tough No. 12 Belle Chasse team in five games, 22-25, 25-12, 25-22, 22-25, 15-6 to advance to the quarterfinals at the Pontchartrain Center. The Doves, 25-15, were led by Gabby Chaix with 12 kills and four blocks, while Jessica Lucio delivered 12 kills with 12 digs. Emma Estapa contributed 33 assists, six digs and four aces. Madeline Luke added 12 digs and Natalie Helm finished with seven digs and three blocks. SSA advances to the Pontchartrain Center facing No. 4 Ben Franklin on Thursday with game time set for 6:10 on Court 2.
Also in Division II, the No. 24 Salmen Lady Spartans, came up short, being downed by No. 9 Cabrini in the opening round, 25-17, 25-15, 25-23. Kalani Brown topped Salmen with 10 kills and 17 assists, while Denisha Price added five kills and Megan Brown had nine digs. 
In Division IV, No. 5 Pope John Paul II, 26-10, swept No. 12 Episcopal, 25-13, 25-18, 25-14. Christina Cutura topped the Lady Jaguars with eight kills and six aces, while Bailee Maillet added 21 assists. Milayne Danna totaled 13 digs. PJP II advances to the quarterfinals, going against No. 4 Riverside Academy with the match set for Thursday at 10:50 in the morning.
Northlake Christian School, the No. 9 seed, bowed out of the playoffs, falling to No. 8 seed Academy of Sacred Heart in four games, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19. NCS, 29-12, was led by Hannah Seale with 10 kills, 38 assists and five blocks, while Lexi White finished with 12 kills, 42 digs and five blocks. Miranda Walls totaled 15 kills, five aces and four blocks. 
Archbishop Hannan, the No. 10 seed, fell to No. 7 John Curtis, 25-22, 25-20, 25-13. Hannah Naquin delivered 14 kills and five digs, while Hailey Cabeceiras added nine assists and seven kills.
In Division V, First Baptist Christian School, the No. 12 seed, came up short falling to No. 5 seed Academy of Sacred Heart Grand Couteau, 25-11, 25-7, 25-19.
