Saints place linebacker Jonathan Vilma back on injured reserve

New Orleans Saints' linebacker Jonathan Vilma returned from the injured reserve list last week playing 12 snaps and was credited with one tackle in the team's 26-20 loss to the New York Jets.
Vilma's return was short-lived as the Saints have placed the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker back on injured reserve ending his season and possibly his playing career. Vilma is trying to make his way back from one of his four knee surgeries. Vilma's injured left knee has plagued him since week 2 of the 2011 season. Vilma underwent an experimental blood-spinning procedure in Germany in 2012 that has also been performed on notable athletes like Kobe Bryant and Alex Rodriguez.

Vilma, who played his college ball with the Miami Hurricanes, before being drafted by the New York Jets, was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2004 and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2005.
Vilma has registered 871 tackles with 12 interceptions, 10.5 sacks and 11 forced fumbles in his 10-year career.
