LHSAA releases football playoff brackets for five classifications and four divisions

The LHSAA released the football playoff brackets and we have a number of our local teams, which
made the grade, through their hard work and have earned the right to advance. The playoff format
is different this season with select and non-select schools. In addition to the regular five classifications there are also four additional individual divisions, which feature of various number of playoff teams and will compete for eventual state championships. It will be interesting to see how all of that works out. If it doesn't work, I'm sure there will be some additional tweaking by the LHSAA in the future.
In our Lake broadcast game of the week Friday night, the Northlake Christian School Wolverines
capped off an unbeaten regular season at 10-0, the first time in school history, rolling past Pope John Paul II, 41-3, to win the District 7-2A title.
NCS enters the Division III playoffs as a No. 3 seed and will host No. 14 Redemptorist.
Archbishop Hannan's Hawks, which finished third in District 7-2A behind NCS and St. Thomas Aquinas, drew a No. 4 seed and will host No. 13 Westminster Christian. St. Thomas Aquinas, the No. 9 seed, plays the opening week on the road, against No. 8 seed Riverside Academy. Pope John Paul II is the No. 12 seed and will travel to No. 5 Holy Savior Menard.
In District 6-5A week 10 regular season action, the 8-2 Mandeville Skippers defeated the
Covington High Lions, 23-14, to share the district crown with the four-time defending
champion St. Paul's. The Wolves, 7-3, closed out the regular season, downing Fontainebleau 56-27.
Mandeville and St. Paul's, finished 6-1 in district.
In Division I playoff seedings, St. Paul's, the No. 7 seed, draws No. 10 seed Archbishop Shaw in
the 10-team division.
Taking a look at the Class 5A bracket, Mandeville enters the playoffs as the No. 12
seed and will host No. 21 John Ehret.
Covington, No. 14, hosts No. 19 Airline. Ponchatoula, No. 16, will host No. 17 Haughton.
Slidell's Tigers, grabbed the final spot at No. 32 seed and travels to No. 1 Acadiana.
In Class 4A,
the 5-5 Lakeshore Titans at No. 21 travel to No. 12 Belle Chasse, while No. 31 Salmen, 3-7, is on
the road against, No. 2 Edna Karr.
