Mandeville Lady Skippers win Allstate Sugar Bowl Metro Swimming Championship

Congratulations to the Mandeville Lady Skippers Swim team for their outstanding effort Saturday
winning the Allstate Sugar Bowl Metro Swimming Championship with the event being held at the
University of New Orleans pool. The Lady Skippers won the title with 322 points in the 21-team field led by juniors Lia Joslin and Megan Loop, who were named Swimmers of the Meet.
Joslin won the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Freestyle, while Loop captured the 200 and 500 freestyle. 
MHS' Denise Frantz won the 100 Breaststroke and the Lady Skippers captured two important
championship relays, winning the 200 Medley Relay with Charlotte Shackelford, Frantz, Joslin
and Alex Cloutet. Mandeville also won the 400 Freestyle with Heidi Fritscher, Joslin, Shackelford and Loop.
St. Scholastica Academy made a nice showing taking second with 306 points. SSA's Madeleine Rawls won the 100 Yard Butterfly. Rawls also swam the first leg of the Doves' victorious 200 yard Freestyle Relay teaming up with Gabby Regard, Brittany Pierce and Emily Prieto. SSA's Kristen Jennings won the 100 yard Backstroke. Northshore's Lady Panthers took third with 266 points. Slidell came in 10 place with 68 points.
Lakeshore was 13th and Northlake Christian School finished 18th.
The Mandeville swim team is coached by Robby Fritscher along with assistants Scott Fleming and Amy Frey.
Coach Fleming said, "it took the entire 70 swimmers on our teams to do so well. It was a big, total team effort. Our swimmers raised the bar for tough competition," said Fleming.
Fleming credited coach Fritscher with doing an outstanding job during the past few years getting the teams ready and they got the job done.
Turning to the boys' competition, the Jesuit Blue Jays defended their title with a dominant win scoring 431 points in the 18-team field. Mandeville took second with 217 points followed by Fontainebleau in third at 152 points with St. Paul's finishing fourth with 145 points tying Archbishop Rummel.
Fontainebleau's Andrew Knudsen and Rummel's Tyler Massimini were named Swimmers of the Meet. Knudsen won the 200 Individual medley and the 100 Breaststroke.
THE LHSAA state championship swim meet takes place Nov. 22-23 in Sulphur.
