SLU Lions earn No. 4 national seed and a first round bye

Southeastern Louisiana University, the Southland Conference Champion, received some richly deserved excellent news yesterday morning as it received the No. 4 national seed in the 2013 NCAA Division I Football Championship, which includes 24-teams. The seeding gives the 10-2 Lions, winners of nine straight games, a first round bye and a second round home game at Strawberry Stadium, as announced by the NCAA yesterday. SLU is making its first ever trip to the playoffs. The Lions opponent will visit Strawberry Stadium Dec. 7 at 7 o'clock. The Lions will host the winner of Saturday's 2 o'clock game between their conference rival Sam Houston State (8-4) and Southern Utah (8-4), which represents the Big Sky Conference.
The national No. 4 seed also puts the Lions in the running to host a quarterfinal contest Dec. 13 or 14. That potential contest would set up a game between either No. 5 national seed Maine, New Hampshire or Lafayette. All first and second round games will be televised on ESPN3. Southeastern's playoff opener on Dec. 7 will be aired on Northshore Broadcasting stations Kajun 107.1 and The Joint 104.7 FM.
