Tulane to battle University of Louisiana Lafayette in New Orleans Bowl

UL Lafayette head coach Mark Hudspeth and his Ragin' Cajuns will participate in their third consecutive R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl . The Ragin' Cajuns defeated East Carolina 43-34 in last year's bowl game.

The Tulane Green Wave, which played its home games at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, has one
more contest there before they start play next season in their own stadium. The 7-5 Green Wave
will battle the 8-4 University of Louisiana Lafayette in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
Saturday in an 8 o'clock kickoff. The Ragin' Cajuns, who went 5-2 in the Sun Belt Conference,
are no strangers to the Dome winning the last two New Orleans Bowls including last year's
thrilling 43-34 victory over East Carolina. Last year's bowl game set an attendance record of
48,828 and as of yesterday UL Lafayette had sold about 21,000 tickets, while Tulane had sold between 8,500 and 9,000 tickets for Saturday's game. Eleven  Ragin' Cajuns were named to the All-Sun Belt Team including Elijah McGuire being named the 2013 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year. A couple of former local St. Tammany parish players were recognized for the Ragin' Cajuns including junior receiver Jamal Robinson and tight end Jacob Maxwell. Robinson, who starred at Salmen High was named to the All-Sun Belt second team. He leads his team and was fifth in the conference with 50 catches for 812 yards with eight touchdowns. Maxwell, who prepped at Pearl River High School, received honorable mention, splitting duties at tight end, making 12 catches for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns.      

Tulane accepts bid to R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl versus the University of Louisiana at Lafayette

 

 

 The Tulane Green Wave accepted its first bowl bid since 2002 and will participate in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, squaring off with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the contest scheduled for Dec. 21 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The 7-5 Green Wave will line up against the 8-3 Ragin' Cajuns, who are making their third consecutive appearance in the New Orleans Bowl so neither team will be a stranger playing in the Superdome as the venue served as the Green Wave's home facility. The Ragin' Cajuns are 5-1 in Sunbelt Conference play, and can win the outright conference championship Saturday with a victory over South Alabama in the regular season finale. The Green Wave's last bowl appearance was a 36-28 victory over Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl. Tulane second-year head coach Curtis Johnson said actually he was hoping for the New Orleans Bowl berth, saying its an advantage to play the bowl locally, and should be a showcase for recruiting targets. Tulane closed out its regular season Saturday on the road falling to the Conference-USA champion Rice Owls 17-13.
  

Tulane Green Wave blasts Texas-El Paso

The Tulane Green Wave played its final home game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome Saturday and
turned in their best outing of the year rolling past Texas-El Paso 45-3 ending a 38-year run in the building, formerly known as the Superdome. Tulane, which will play in their own newly constructed stadium on campus next season, improved to 7-4. The Green Wave is 5-2 in the Conference-USA West standings tied for second place with North Texas. Both clubs trail the Rice Owls by one game heading into Saturday's
regular season finale as the Greenies travel to Rice to battle the Owls, who stand at 8-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play holding the one game advantage over Tulane and North Texas.
Saturday's decisive victory over Texas-El Paso keeps the Green Wave in the running for the West Division title and a spot in the Conference-USA championship.
Junior quarterback Nick Montana completed 12-of-19 passes for 171 yards with three touchdowns in Saturday's victory and Orleans Darkwa rushed for 137 yards with a touchdown.   

 

Tulane edged by University of Texas at San Antonio

The Tulane Green Wave dropped its second straight game, Saturday being edged by the University of Texas at San Antonio, 10-7 in the Alamodome. Yellow flags were the Green Wave's nemesis as Tulane was penalized 14 times for 105 yards including eight false start penalties, which stopped potential drives. Tulane held a 7-0 halftime advantage with Orleans Darkwa scoring on a nine-yard run with a minute remaining. The Roadrunners tied the game in the third quarter on 68-yard run by Brandon Armstrong and the point after. The Roadrunners won it with a last minute 34-yard field goal from Sean Lanno. Tulane, 6-4, is 4-2 in
Conference-USA play. The Greenies have a bye week, before hosting the University of Texas at El Paso Nov. 23 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.  Tulane closes out the regular season with the Rice Owls
