Tulane to battle University of Louisiana Lafayette in New Orleans Bowl


UL Lafayette head coach Mark Hudspeth and his Ragin' Cajuns will participate in their third consecutive R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl . The Ragin' Cajuns defeated East Carolina 43-34 in last year's bowl game.
The Tulane Green Wave, which played its home games at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, has one
more contest there before they start play next season in their own stadium. The 7-5 Green Wave
will battle the 8-4 University of Louisiana Lafayette in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
Saturday in an 8 o'clock kickoff. The Ragin' Cajuns, who went 5-2 in the Sun Belt Conference,
are no strangers to the Dome winning the last two New Orleans Bowls including last year's
thrilling 43-34 victory over East Carolina. Last year's bowl game set an attendance record of
48,828 and as of yesterday UL Lafayette had sold about 21,000 tickets, while Tulane had sold between 8,500 and 9,000 tickets for Saturday's game. Eleven  Ragin' Cajuns were named to the All-Sun Belt Team including Elijah McGuire being named the 2013 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year. A couple of former local St. Tammany parish players were recognized for the Ragin' Cajuns including junior receiver Jamal Robinson and tight end Jacob Maxwell. Robinson, who starred at Salmen High was named to the All-Sun Belt second team. He leads his team and was fifth in the conference with 50 catches for 812 yards with eight touchdowns. Maxwell, who prepped at Pearl River High School, received honorable mention, splitting duties at tight end, making 12 catches for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
