SLU Lions hosting fan appreciation tailgating and pep rally event


Southeastern Louisiana University football fans are encouraged to LION Up later this morning as a student appreciation tailgate and pep rally event is scheduled on the Hammond campus. Things get underway this morning at 11:30 and will run through 1 o'clock at the War Memorial Student Center Park and its open to members of the community. Drawings will be held with an opportunity to win game tickets, t-shirts and other planned giveaways. Second-year head coach Ron Roberts will address the crowd and fans will have a chance to take photos with the Southland Conference trophy. The Lions, 10-2, continue their preparations to host Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State Bearkats this Saturday night at Strawberry Stadium in a 7 o'clock kick off. SLU, the No. 4 national seed, drew a first-round bye and square off with the 9-4 Bearkats, who rolled past Southern Utah 51-20 in the first round to advance. The Lions, who have gotten it done on both sides of the ball this season, defeated Sam Houston State 34-21 Nov. 16 at Strawberry Stadium in their conference clash.
