LSU's Aaron Nola and Alex Bregman receive All-American recognition from Collegiate Baseball

In collegiate baseball news, LSU  junior pitcher Aaron Nola and sophomore shortstop Alex Bregman
have received 2014 preseason all-America recognition from Collegiate Baseball. Nola was named a first-team All-American, while Bregman was named to the second team.  Both Nola and Bregman were named first-team preseason all-Americans last week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Nola, 12-1 last season with a 1.57 earned run average, struck out 122 batters in 126 innings. Nola was voted SEC Pitcher of the Year by the league coaches. Nola, winner of the 2013 Corbett Award as Louisiana's top male amateur athlete, was also a finalist for the National Pitcher of the Year Award presented by the College Baseball Hall of Fame Foundation. Bregman was the National Shortstop of the Year by Collegiate Baseball and by the National College Baseball Writers Association. Bregman batted .369 last season with 18 doubles, seven triples and six homers. He drove in 52 runs and scored 59 times with 16 stolen bases. LSU begins preseason practice Jan. 24 and the Tigers host the UNO Privateers February 14 in the season opener at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
