Southeastern Louisiana University head coach Ron Roberts has been selected the American Football
Coaches Association's Region 5 Coach of the Year. Region 5 includes the Southland Conference and Big Sky Conference. The 2013 Regional Coach of the Year winners will be recognized at the AFCA Coach of the Year dinner at the 2014 AFCA Convention Jan. 14 in Indianapolis. All head coaches who were eligible for regional honors are eligible for national honors as well. Roberts, who is in his second season with the 11-2 Lions, winners of the Southland Conference title and 10 consecutive victories, has guided Southeastern to its first playoff appearance and victory. The No. 4 national seed Lions by virtue of their 30-29 come-from-behind victory over conference rival Sam Houston State in last week's second round game have advanced and will host the New Hampshire Wildcats in the quarterfinals Saturday night at Strawberry Stadium with a 6 o'clock kickoff.
