The collegiate football season is right around the corner and the Southeastern Louisiana
University Lions report to fall camp Aug. 1st with a number of St. Tammany Parish and other
local products on the roster. Our sister station Kajun 107.1 in Hammond has announced that it
will be broadcasting all of the upcoming SLU Lions' games this season. Kajun will also be
carrying the Ron Roberts Coaches show broadcast on Monday nights at Tope La catering in downtown
Hammond. Kajun will also take part in the tailgating process interacting with the Lions' fans for home game festivities at Strawberry Stadium.
Head coach Ron Roberts heads into his second season as the Lions posted a 5-2 Southland Conference record last season and finished 5-6 overall.
Coach Roberts along with other Lions' coaches from various sports will be in Mandeville tonight for the second stop on the Coaches' Caravan, sponsored by the Southeastern Alumni Association. Tonight's event takes place at the Lakehouse located at 2025 Lakeshore Drive, from 6-8 p.m. It's a great opportunity to stop by and meet the Lions' coaches as they preview their programs. For more info you can contact the
Southeastern Alumni Association at 549-2150.
Meanwhile, the Southland Conference Football Media Day took place yesterday in Lake Charles.
SLU's Lions are picked to finish fourth and fifth in the conference announced by the league's sports information directors and head coaches, respectively.
Sam Houston State, the two-time national runner up, was named as the majority choice to capture
the Southland Conference title by both the league's head coaches and SID's. Central Arkansas and the McNeese State Cowboys are picked behind the Bearkats in both polls.
Lions' coach Roberts talked about his team, saying "the biggest thing we need to do is take
care of the little things and take the next step as a football team and that starts with
accountability and being more consistent."
