Pelicans Developments

The New Orleans Pelicans after making a number of moves to help strengthen its back court has
addressed the front court, signing seven-foot center Jeff Withey. Per club policy, details of
the contract, were not released. Withey, who starred for the Kansas Jayhawks, performed for
the Pels in the Summer League, averaging 1.5 blocks per contest. Withey finished his
collegiate career as the Big 12 All-Time shot blocker with 312 rejections, which should enable
him to help control the lane for the Pelicans.
Withey was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in his junior and senior seasons.
Withey was tabbed as the 39th overall pick by the Portland Trailblazers in the June NBA draft
and was acquired July 10th from the Blazers along with Tyreke Evans from Sacramento in a
3-team trade with New Orleans giving up popular players guard Greivis Vasquez and center Robin
Lopez.
Pelicans' players Anthony Davis, Tyreke Evans and Austin Rivers have been named 2014 NBA
All-Star Ambassadors and will serve as spokespersons for the 22nd annual NBA All-Star
event in New Orleans at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Feb. 13-16.
Davis said, "NBA All-Star Jam Session is the most exciting fan event of the year."
