SLU Coaches' Caravan visits Mandeville

The SLU Coaches' Caravan made a stop in Mandeville last night at the historic Lakehouse
on Lakeshore Drive. It was the second stop on the tour sponsored by the Southeastern Alumni
Association. A number of Lions' head coaches were in attendance included second-year head
football coach Ron Roberts with each coach giving a perspective and preview of their teams.
It was a large gathering of Lions' alumni and fans, who were entertained by each of the
coaches enthusiasm for their programs and the university itself.
Interim athletics director Jay Artigues, the Lions' former baseball coach, who is the
school's 15th AD, was the first to speak to the gathering and asked everybody to "Lion Up" a
phrase, which is gathering speed among the school's programs and fan base.
The Lions' football team begins fall practice Aug. 1 and kicks off the season Aug. 29, a
Thursday night at Strawberry Stadium, hosting Southeast Missouri.
Yesterday the 2013 College Sports Madness preseason All-Southland Conference team was
announced. Lions' senior O-lineman Gasten Gabriel was tabbed as a first-teamer with four
Lions being selected for the second team. Those four included tight end Jeremy Meyers, kick
returner Xavier Roberson, linebacker Kaleb Muse and defensive back Todd Washington. Four players
were also named to the third team, which included linebackers Cqulin Hubert and Drew Misita along with DB Tyler Stoddard and offensive lineman Marshall Paris.
College Sports Madness also recognized Southeastern in its annual FCS preview ranking the Lions at No. 39 overall and fourth in the Southland Conference.
