NBA releases 2013-14 schedule

The NBA announced its 2013-14 schedule yesterday. The New Orleans Pelicans play their first game Oct. 30, hosting the Indiana Pacers. The Pels will appear in six nationally televised games as they look to improve on their disappointing 27-55 season last year.
Owner Tom Benson has opened up his check book and the Pelicans were busy during draft day pulling off trades and building a competitive roster via free agency.
Benson said, "Our organization and our fans are anticipating an exhilarating season as we continue to build a championship-caliber team on and off the court."
Benson is also enthused about New Orleans hosting the 2014 All-Star game, which takes place Feb. 14.
The NBA season tips off Oct. 29 with the Miami Heat, the two-time defending champs, eying a 3-peat, hosting the Chicago Bulls with Derek Rose back in the fold. Opening night also features the L. A. Lakers anticipating Kobe Bryant's return from his heel surgery as they host the cross town L.A Clippers and point guard Chris Paul along with their new head coach Doc Rivers.
