Saints make cuts

The New Orleans Saints trimmed their roster yesterday getting down to the 75-player figure
mandated by the NFL.
The team announced seven transactions yesterday including placing injured linebacker Will Smith out for the season with a knee injury suffered in Sunday's 31-23 preseason victory over the Houston Texans, on the injured reserve list. The Saints also place receiver Joe Morgan, the anticipated deep threat , who tore his anterior cruciate ligament, during a training camp scrimmage on the injured reserve list along with
linebacker Chris Chamberlain, who has an  unspecified injury.
Outside linebacker Victor Bulter was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list, out with
a torn ACL, which he suffered during an off-season workout.
The Saints waived three players yesterday including undrafted rookie linebacker Eric
Martin, safety Akwasi Owusu-Amsah and receiver Tim Toone, not to be confused with Nick
Toon, the second-year player out of Wisconsin, who should make the final 53-man roster.
The Saints picked up San Francisco 49ers' linebacker Parys Haralson to fill the void with
Will Smith's injury, giving up a seventh-round draft choice in next year's draft.
Head coach Sean Payton said Haralson will not play in tomorrow's final preseason game on the
road against the Miami Dolphins. The club announced picking up former Buffalo Bills'
corner back Jamal Rolle off waivers.
Payton said quarterback Drew Brees will not see any action in tomorrow night's game against
Miami. It is expected backup Luke McCown will start and play the first quarter. Rookie quarterback Ryan Griffin, undrafted out of Tulane will play the final three quarters as he battles to make the final roster. Both McCown and Griffin have looked solid during the preseason.
Coach Payton said cornerback Patrick Robinson, who saw his first action against Houston, would
likely see more action than many of the other regular starters.
