Four St. Tammany Parish football teams still in playoff picture

Tonight's featured high school playoff game on the Lake features the No. 12 Pope John Paul II
Jaguars hosting the No. 4 seed Archbishop Hannan Hawks, squaring off in Division III action. The
teams, District 7-2A rivals, met earlier this season in week five with Archbishop Hannan winning a close one, 22-20, played at the Jags' Lester Latino Field.
PJP II advanced with a 22-6 road victory over No. 5 seed Holy Savior Menard in which the Jags
rushed for 501 yards topped by junior Chance Caire, who broke loose for 286 yards backed up
by Joe Feraci, who finished with 186 yards.
The Hawks are led by senior quarterback Korey Zeigler and fellow seniors Michael Froeba and
Jason Brooks. Zeigler has passed for 1,373 yards with 15 TDs and rushed for 689 yards with 12
scores. Froeba tops the Hawks with 951 yards and 14 touchdowns, while Brooks has caught 48 passes for 431 yards with two receiving touchdowns and four rushing.
The 11-0 Northlake Christian School Wolverines, the No. 3 seed, are at home tonight, hosting the No. 6 seed, Catholic of New Iberia Panthers.
NCS won their opening round game, downing No. 14 seed Redemptorist 49-14, while Cathoic of New
Iberia defeated No. 11 Dunham 50-9. NCS is led by Taylor Mussachia with 1,258 yards rushing and
21 scores along with QB Josh O'Rear, who has passed for 1,363 yards and 15 TDs.
In Class 5A playoff action tonight, the lone remaining St. Tammany Parish team, the No. 14
seed, the Covington High Fighting Lions under first-year head coach Greg Salter, travel to No.
3 seed East Ascension. The Spartans are 9-2 on the season. Covington advanced after defeating
No. 19 Airline 48-13. The Lions' defense forced seven turnovers including five interceptions of
which three were returned for scores by George Brister, who went 100 yards with a pick-six
along with Jeremy Haar and Andrew Breeland, who tallied on interceptions. The Lions' are looking
for another good defensive effort this week on the road. The Lions' offense is triggered by C. J. Sims with 1,229 yards rushing with 12 TDs and has caught 39 passes for 647 yards and five scores. QB Dylan Savarese has thrown for a school record 2,041 yards with 16 touchdowns.
