SLU rolls past McNeese State


 
Southeastern Louisiana University made a big statement in Southland Conference play Saturday
downing the No. 4/7 ranked McNeese State Cowboys 41-7 in Lake Charles.
The Lions, 7-2, won their sixth straight game and grabbed sole possession of first place in the Southland Conference at 4-0, earning their first road win at a nationally-ranked opponent sin e a 51-17 win over then No. 6 McNeese State in 2004.
Lions' second-year coach Ron Roberts said, "it was a total team effort to get this victory against a very talented McNeese State team. Our student-athletes and coaching staff should be very proud of the level of focus and preparation they showed," added Roberts.
Lions' sophomore Rasheed Harrell rushed for a game-high 119 yards with a touchdown, while QB
Bryan Bennett added 88 yards and two rushing scores to pace the SLU offense. Bennett has 11
rushing TDs on the year, which ties him for third on the Lions' single season list.
Lions' place kicker Seth Sebastian remained perfect on the season kicking field goals of 30 and 44 yards, making him 8-for-8, while still perfect, hitting on all 45 of his point after attempts.
SLU travels to Central Arkansas this week before, closing out the regular season with two home games against Sam Houston State andNicholls State.
