In the Division I state volleyball playoffs,
Mandeville's Lady Skippers, the No. 15 seed, earned a hard fought, sweep over district rival
No. 18 Ponchatoula yesterday at home. MHS won 25-23, 25-23, 25-15 in a competitive match.
Mandeville, 20-18, advances and travels to No. 2 Mt. Carmel, the defending Division I state champs, who posted a 41-3 regular season record and drew a first round bye.
Monday's regional round contest gets underway at 5 o'clock. Mandeville's Caroline Hasse spearheaded the the Lady Skippers' attack with 16 kills, five digs and two blocks followed by Sam Gomez, who posted 10 kills. Marissa LeCompte, the daughter of Mandeville High head football coach Guy LeCompte, delivered five kills with three blocks, while Sarah Rinaudo netted 27 assists. Ali LeBlanc pulled up 15 digs, while Amber Sheffield added eight digs and three assists.
The Fontainebleau Lady Bulldogs, who captured another unbeaten district title this season,
enters the playoffs as a No. 9 seed and hosts No. 24 Chalmette this afternoon at 5 o'clock.
In Division II, district champion Lakeshore Lady Titans, the No. 2 seed, and No. 5 seeded St. Scholastica
Academy, drew first round byes, while No. 24 Salmen plays No. 9 Cabrini, this afternoon on
the road at 5:30.
In Division IV playoff action, the No. 10 seed Archbishop Hannan Lady Hawks, cruised past No.
23 Cohen, 25-3, 25-9, 25-3. Hannah Naquin topped the Lady Hawks with 15 kills and Haley
Cabeceiras added 14 assists. Danielle Ledet served eight aces. The Lady Hawks advance to the
regional round and travel to No. 7 John Curtis, which had a first round bye.
No. 9 seed Northlake Christian School opens their anticipated playoff run this afternoon hosting No. 24
Sophie B. Wright at 5 o'clock.
District champion, No. 5 seed Pope John Paul II, drew a first round bye and hosts No. 12
Episcopal, Saturday at noon.
In Division V, the No. 12 seed, First Baptist Christian School Lady Eagles, host Crescent City
this afternoon at 5.
