The Black and Gold recognized the longtime franchise efforts of Archie Manning along with NFL Hall of Famers' offensive lineman Willie Roaf and linebacker Rickey Jackson as the team placed the trio in the inaugural Saints' Ring of Honor.
On the field the Saints failed to take care of business yesterday on the road and turned in a dismal team performance falling to the New York Jets 26-20. Former Saints' running back Chris Ivory turned in a solid effort against his former teammates rushing for 139 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown. The Saints' defense was unable to stop Ivory as he gashed through for big carries, averaging a hefty 7.7 yards per
carry. The Jets' defense under New York head coach Rex Ryan got the job done, while Saints'
defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, his twin brother, was unable to stop the opponents' running game.
Drew Brees was pressured and constantly harassed by the Jets' defense. Brees finished 30-of-51 for 382 yards with two TDs, but was picked off twice on deflected passes. Brees and the Saints had an opportunity on their final possession, trailing by just six points, but were unable to pick up a first down.
Tight end Jimmy Graham returned to his early season form, catching nine passes for 116 yards with two scores. All in all it was a very disappointing day for the Saints, which suffered their second loss in the last three games slipping to 6-2, while the Jets improved to 5-4 in their up and down season.
The Saints lost ground in the NFC South race as Carolina defeated Atlanta 34-10 and the Panthers
only trail the Saints by one game. The Saints will try to rebound from yesterday's frustrating loss as they host the Dallas Cowboys in a key Sunday night encounter in the Mercedes-Benz-Superdome. Dallas snared a last minute 27-23 come-from-behind victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
