The New Orleans Saints' loyal fan base suffered shear heartbreak yesterday as the Black & Gold
surrendered a late lead and fell to the New England Patriots 30-27 in Foxborough, Mass.
Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady, the two-time NFL MVP, had the last say yesterday, engineering
New England for the game-winning drive on their final possession, hitting Kenbrell Thompkins
from 17-yards out with just five seconds remaining.
The Saints, who took a 27-23 lead on a 39-yard Garrett Hartley field goal, with just 1:13 to
play and no timeouts for the Patriots allowed Brady to snatch the victory from the Saints'
grasp with a tremendous two-minute drill, handing New Orleans its first setback at 5-1,
heading into the bye week. It was the 38th time, Brady, has led the Patriots to a win after
trailing or being tied in the fourth quarter.
The Saints, now on a bye week, return to action Oct. 27th, hosting the Buffalo Bills.
New England running back Stevan Ridley, a former LSU Tiger and third round pick in 2011, turned
in a solid effort, rushing for two touchdowns. Ridley gained 96 yards on 20 carries, averaging 4.8 yards per rush, helping to take some of the pressure off of Brady.
Saints' QB Drew Brees had an off day only completing 17-of-36 attempts for 236 yards with
two TDs and one interception. Brees found rookie Kenny Stills on a 34-yard scoring strike. Stills finished with three receptions for 64 yards.
Saints' tight end Jimmy Graham, who entered the game, leading the league with 593 yards and
second in receptions with 37, was a no-show as he didn't catch a pass and was a non-factor.
Graham suffered some type of leg injury, but there was no specific word from Sean Payton or
the Saints on how severe.
Kirey Robinson tallied his first NFL TD and led the Saints, rushing for 53 yards on seven
carries. Travaris Cadet joined Cadet logging his first score as did Stills, making solid showings
for the team.
