The University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Ragin Cajuns downed the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
37-20 last night on the road in a Sun Belt Conference battle before a nationally televised audience.
Ragin Cajuns' freshman safety Al Riles, who starred at Lakeshore High, made a crucial interception and returned the ball 99 yards for a pick six. Riles, a multi-sport athlete for the Lakeshore Titans, had an excellent high school career and is making key contributions for the Ragin Cajuns.
Riles finished with five tackles, including three solo stops. Riles had one and a half tackles for loss in the win.
Western Kentucky held a 10-point lead and were in business facing a fourth-and-goal from the
one. The Hilltoppers decided to go for it on a pass play and Riles stepped in front of the pass, making the
play of the night taking it the distance to make it 10-7 following the extra point.
It was UL Lafayette's fourth consecutive win and they are 4-2 overall and 2-0 in Sun Belt play,
while Western Kentucky slipped to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Ragin Cajuns rushed for 254 yards in the victory led by Alonzo Harris, who rushed for a
season-high 115 yards and two touchdowns.
The Ragin Cajuns' defense forced four turnovers overcoming a 10-point first quarter deficit,
keyed by Riles' interception TD return.
The Ragin Cajuns are on the road again for their next game, squaring off with defending Sun Belt
Champion Arkansas State in a Tuesday Oct. 22 game, which will be televised on ESPN2.
