Tulane Green Wave opens baseball practice

The Tulane Green Wave baseball team begins their fall practice schedule today going through the
beginning of November in preparation for the 2014 season. The Green Wave will hold its annual
Fall Ball World Series Nov. 1-3 at Greer Field,  Turchin Stadium.
The Green Wave finished 30-28 overall last season, going 11-13 in Conference USA play under
longtime head coach Rick Jones.
Tulane graduated two former local St. Tammany Parish stars, infielder Garrett Cannizaro, a
Mandeville High grad, and outfielder Brandon Boudreaux, who starred at St. Paul's.
Cannizaro, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 18th round (547th
overall), batted .263 with 33 runs batted in and scored 52 times in his final season with the
Green Wave. Cannizaro ripped three homers with 14 doubles, showing his versatility in the field
starting at second base, shortstop, third base and in right field during his senior season.
Cannizaro, a 2010 Conference USA All-Freshman team member, batted .322, while making 54 starts
at shortstop. Cannizaro is fifth in school history in starts with 221.
Boudreaux, batted .244 his senior year with 23 runs batted in and scored 51 times. He stole
eight bases in 12 attempts, swiping 29 bases in his career. Boudreaux batted .286 in his Green
Wave career, finishing with 104 runs batted in with 13 homers and eight triples. He only
committed five errors as a Greenie, making just one as a senior in 138 chances.
Boudreaux also excelled in the classroom being named to a number of Conference USA All-Academic
teams with a cumulative 3.698 grade point average.
