Covington Lions square off with St. Paul's Wolves in battle for Brown Jug

St. Paul's, the author of 33 consecutive district victories, puts that mark on the line tonight visiting the Covington Lions at Jack Salter Stadium. The Wolves and the Lions battle for the Brown Jug. St. Paul's has won the last nine meetings so Covington High would like nothing more than to stop that run.
The Wolves, 5-2, hold a one game lead in District 6-5A at 4-0, while the Lions, 4-3, trail St. Paul's by one game along with Mandeville and Ponchatoula at 3-1 in the close district race.
St. Paul's junior QB Ryan O'Krepki has provided the Wolves with consistency and senior Marcus
Gaines is the featured runner and Mitreon Brumfield provides outside speed for the Wolves in the passing game.
Covington under first-year head coach Greg Salter looks to senior quarterback Dylan Savarese, who has passed for 1,404 yards with 12 touchdowns and six picks. C.J. Sims is the Lions' leading receiver and rusher. He has caught 27 passes for 474 yards with four scores, while rushing for 808 yards and a team-high
seven TDs.
Defenisvely, the Lions are led by senior Garrald McDowell, who has 57 tackles with five sacks.
Broderick Bankston tops the Lions' 'D' with seven sacks. Lamarco Jacobs leads with three
interceptions.
