SLU's Bryan Bennett earns offensive honor

SLU junior quarterback Bryan Bennett named Louisiana Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week for second time.


Southeastern Louisiana University junior quarterback Bryan Bennett has been selected as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week. Bennett, who transferred from Oregon, earned the honor for the second time this season.
Bennett helped the Lions gain 566 yards of total offense in SLU's 56-34 Southland Conference Homecoming victory over Lamar Saturday at Strawberry Stadium.
Bennett passed for 237 yards with two touchdowns and also led the Lions' in the rushing department, gaining 95 yards on 11 carries. Bennett has thrown for 1,712 yards with nine TDs and leads the team with 533 rushing yards with nine rushing scores.
The 6-2 Lions are tied with the 7-1 McNeese State Cowboys at 3-0 in the Southland Conference race. They battle each other this Saturday in Lake Charles for the outright Conference lead. McNeese State downed Nicholls State 55-30 last week with St. Paul's graduate, Dylan Long, scoring two touchdowns for the Cowboys.
