The High School football season is upon us as programs are gearing up for scrimmages scheduled next week followed by jamborees. Teams kickoff the regular season Friday Sept. 6. The Lake 94.7 is looking forward to broadcasting weekly live football contests as well as the weekly Northshore Sports radio show from WOW Cafe at the Clarion Inn and Suites in Covington.
Covington High School, the home of the Lions, has announced a pretty neat initiative, sponsoring
the CHS-Jr. High Football Kickoff Classic 2013, which is scheduled for Saturday Aug. 24th at Jack Salter Stadium.
The inaugural classic is being sponsored by Domino's Pizza, Hanson's Electric and Lake94.7.
The Junior High athletes will have an opportunity to play on Jack Salter Stadium, where they hope to have a chance to shine later on during their high school careers as Lions' football players.
The Classic will feature three games with the theme of Team and Unity, as the potential
future Lions showcase their skills.
Lee Road Jr. High squares off with Madisonville Jr. in the Aug. 24th opener at 4 o'clock followed by Fifth Ward Jr. High doing battle with Archbishop Hannan's JV squad at six o'clock. The finale Aug. 24th pits
William Pitcher Jr. High going against Folsom Jr. High, with an 8 p.m. kickoff.
The gates at Jack Salter Stadium, the home of the Lions, will open one hour prior to the four o'clock game and there is a $5.00 admission charge. Tickets can be purchased at Covington High School or at the gate the day of the game.
Come out and support your local junior high football athletes in the inaugural CHS Jr. High Football Kickoff Classic set for Aug. 24th. For more information call Glenn Hanson 246-0230 or Covington High 893-3528.
