The Lake Sports Director Mike Pervel shares a moment with Mike Detillier and interviews the sports guru.
The East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce held its August Luncheon yesterday in Slidell at
Trinity's Banquet Hall. The Silver Slipper Casino in conjunction with the Chamber presented
the luncheon with general manager John Ferrucci introducing guest speaker Mike Detillier, one of
the Bayou Boys. Detillier, pretty much a household name to sports fans here in the South, dazzled the large Chamber crowd yesterday with a number of funny, anecdotal stories some throwing barbs at his long-time buddy, former Saints' QB Bobby Hebert, the "Cajun Cannon."
Detillier and Hebert co-host the "Second Guess Show" broadcast live on Monday afternoon's from
the Silver Slipper Casino during the football season.
Detillier also had some great lines referring back to his former sidekick, the late, great
Louisiana icon, "Buddy D" Buddy DeLiberto.
Detillier opened his remarks with a big Who Dat to the delight of the Chamber crowd.
Detillier is well-respected in the broadcast and print journalism community and throughout the league known for his vast sports knowledge and timeless research. He highlighted how he felt about the
Saints' upcoming season. Detillier picked the Black and Gold to win the NFC South holding off
the Atlanta Falcons and when I asked him what he felt the Saints' record would be he said, 10 and 6.
He feels the Saints have to run the ball more consistently to return to their previous playoff form.
He really likes the play and ability of defensive lineman Cam Jordan, describing him as
an unbelievable talent. Detillier said the Saints are focused and ready to play trying to make
fans forget about last year's disappointing 7-9 season following the Bounty Gate scandal. He
said the boss, Sean Payton, is back and folks will be accountable.
Detillier also gave an overview of the LSU Tigers. He predicts the Tigers despite their
tough SEC schedule will surprise a lot of people. He said he wouldn't be surprised if they
win 10 games. He said he feels Cam Cameron the Tigers' new offensive coordinator can make a
difference and added the development of quarterback Zack Mettenberger will be crucial.
At this point, its Geaux Tigers and go Saints!
