The Tulane Green Wave opens the season tomorrow night in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, hosting
Jackson State.
Tulane second-year head coach Curtis Lofton has announced that junior signal caller Nick
Montana, the son of former NFL legend Joe Montana, has earned the starting nod for the
Wave.
Johnson said he likes Montana's presence in the huddle and his experience after transferring in
from Mt. San Antonio Junior College in California where he threw for more than 2,000 yards last season. Montana also played six games for Washington as a freshman.
Coach Johnson said, "We finally got all the tabulations, we did everything, we dotted the
I's and cross T's and Nick Montana is going to be our starter."
Johnson went on to say he and his staff feel that Montana gives them the best chance to win
and thinks he will do a fantastic job.
Montana won the starting job, beating out red-shirt freshman Devin Powell and freshman
Tanner Lee and junior walk-on Jordy Joseph.
