The Tulane Green Wave coming off a disappointing 2-10 season set a quality opening pace last
night rolling past Jackson State 34-7 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with junior transfer
quarterback Nick Montana getting the job done as the Greenies were able to run the ball for 153
yards.
Montana, who got off to a slow start finished 6-of-14 for 144 yards with two TD tosses.
Green Wave second-year coach Curtis Johnson said, "The victory was outstanding."
"It's good to be 1-0. There's a lot to improve on. We'll get better as the season goes on,"
added Johnson.
Tulane rushed for 153 yards led by Orleans Darkwa, who finished with 50 yards on 13
carries, finding the end zone twice.
Tulane is at home again next Saturday in the Dome, hosting South Alabama.
