St. Tammany Parish football squads get the District 6-5A action underway tonight.
Defending district champion, St. Paul's, 1-2, after a tough, early non-district schedule,
opens on the road tonight, traveling to Slidell to meet the 2-1 Tigers at L. V. McGinty Stadium.
St. Paul's coach Kenny Sears and Slidell first-year coach Larry Favre will renew a
rivalry they had years ago when Favre coached the Fontainebleau Bulldogs before taking a
position as the St. Tammany Parish Athletic Director.
Slidell senior running back Montel Williams has excelled rushing for 662 yards, averaging 8.2
yards per carry, with nine rushing touchdown in the Tigers' first three games. Williams ran for
330 yards with four touchdowns in last week's 28-27 overtime loss to Lakeshore
The Northshore Panthers off to a 3-0 start under interim head coach Mike LaBourdette hosts the
Covington Fighting-Lions under first-year head coach Greg Salter.
The unbeaten 3-0 Lakeshore Titans under first-year head coach Craig Jones host the
Chalmette Owls tonight at Titan Colesium.
Northlake Christian School's Wolverines sporting a 3-0 record open District 7-2A play tonight on
the road traveling to Springfield to battle the Bulldogs. The Wolverines are off to a quick
start led by senior quarterback Josh O'Rear, who accounted for four TDs last week in NCS' 53-22
non-district home victory over the Pearl River Rebels. O'Rear passed for two scores and ran for
two, while fellow senior Taylor Mussachia rushed for 133 yards and tallied three times to lead
the Wolverines.
