OSU accused of NCAA rules violations

Oklahoma State University is in the news, which is where LSU head coach Les Miles coached the
Cowboys from 2001 to 2004 before taking over the Tigers' program.
A Sports Illustrated five-part series released yesterday alleges that some NCAA rules
violations may have taken place at Oklahoma State suggesting players were paid by coaches
and boosters, while Miles was the team's head coach.
Miles has denied there were any violations committed at OSU under him.
Former LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman said yesterday morning nothing came up during the
background check when Miles was hired by LSU back in 2004.
Bertman told NOLA.com/The Times Picayune he found no evidence of wrongdoing by Miles prior
to hiring him.
Bertman said, "we did an extensive background check on a personal basis, and there was also a
background check on the University per se."
"Nothing showed in terms of NCAA issues-nothing," said Bertman.
Bertman went on to say, "I'm not saying this guy is wrong. But I am saying there was nothing that
involved Les Miles."
The reported violations are beyond the statute of limitations, which makes it unlikely the
NCAA can bring any penalties to Miles or the accused coaches of his staff.
LSU is focused on its third game of the season, Saturday as the Tigers host Kent State in Death
Valley. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU with a 6 o'clock kickoff.
Kent State is 1-1 on the season. The Golden Flashes beat Liberty University 17-10 in their
opener before falling to Bowling Green 41-22 last week.
