Slidell Jamboree sees coach Larry Favre return to coaching

Slidell High head coach Larry Favre, who has returned to the coaching ranks, celebrated
another victory Friday night as the Tigers edged a talented East Jefferson team 16-14 in the
Slidell Jamboree at L. V. McGinty Stadium.
Backup QB Bradley Bozant replaced starter Ryan Rucker, who sprained an ankle late during the
jamboree.
Bozant won it for the Tigers orchestrating a long drive with only 5:02 left in the contest.
Bozant hit Jordon Bello on a 3-yard scoring toss to help the Tigers earn the thrilling
come-from-behind victory.
Coach Favre said his players responded from adversity Friday night with the starter Rucker
going out with an ankle sprain.
"The players did what they had to for us to win it and we couldn't be any prouder of them. I
told our team we just wanted the ball at the end with a chance to win. We took the last five
minutes off the clock and we won the football game," Favre said.
Favre said it was a great first step for his Tigers.
Rucker completed 7-of-14 passes for 69 yards with a touchdown.
Senior Austin Wills booted a 38-yard field goal and Rucker found Cain Mitchell for a TD. Wills'
extra point put Slidell up 10-0 at the half.
East Jefferson got back into the game returning the second half kickoff for a score.
Slidell opens its season on the road Friday night taking on the Chalmette Owls.
In the opener of the Slidell Jamboree, the Northshore Panthers pitched a 17-0 shutout over
the Lakeshore Titans.
Assistant coach Mike LaBourdette designated as the Panthers' interim coach filling in for head
coach Mike Bourg, who is recovering from heart surgery, helped guide Northshore to the win.
Quarterback Dalvin Populist tallied two touchdowns on runs of 3 and one-yard. Austin
Dixon added on a 30-yard field goal and made both point after touchdowns for the Panthers.
LaBourdette said the Panthers' players deserved the victory and were able to put it altogether.
The team has worked hard and every time they take the field they seem to get better," LaBourdette
said.
"It's been a pleasure leading this team in coach Bourg's absence. I'm just trying to steer the
ship in the right direction until coach Bourg is able to get back," LaBourdette said.
Lakeshore QB Dylan Fields completed 9-of-18 passes for 122 yards with an interception being
picked off by Northshore's Dominick Ambo.
Lakeshore's Robbie Nucklas caught four passes for 73 yards, while Xavier Chatman also had four
receptions for 29 yards. Tyler Prestenbach delivered four tackles with an assist for the Titans, while Dallas Matamoros added three primary stops with an assist. Daevon Diaz, playing both ways gained 29 yards rushing and recorded two tackles, two assist with one stop for a loss and he defended a pass.
