LSU freshman golfer Brandon Pierce, a former member of the St. Paul's Wolves' state
championship team last year, made his collegiate debut with the Tigers this week, earning a tie
for 34th place in the fifth-annual Golfweek Conference Challenge held in Iowa.
Pierce, the son of Chav and Rebecca Pierce of Covington, finished at six over par 222, carding
rounds of 76 followed by two consecutive 73s.
Pierce talked about his debut. "I was so pumped to be able to play at the college level. My goal this summer was to qualify for the team either the first or second tournament. I reached my goal and now it is time
to make some more goals. I would love to become an All-SEC Player and an All-American during my
career," Pierce said.
Pierce said the fairways were narrow. "I probably only hit 50 percent of the fairways and I have to do better than that," Pierce added.
Pierce's teammate, LSU junior Stewart Jolly, holed a 30-foot birdie put on yesterday's final
hole finishing in a tie for first place with Virginia Tech's Scott Vincent. Jolly came in at
six-under par 210 with rounds of 72, 69 and 69.
LSU, ranked No. 9 in the Golfweek pre-season Top 30 poll, finished strong coming home with a fifth place team finish firing rounds of 300, 288 and 284 for a 872 total at 8 over for the tourney.
