Tulane tops Louisiana Tech

The Tulane Green Wave traveled to Ruston last night and came home with a 24-15 Conference-USA
opening victory over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, who were making their first conference appearance.
Tulane 7 1/2 point underdogs, moved to 2-1 on the season, putting together an impressive
second half performance.
Tulane junior QB Nick Montana, who is in his first year with the Greenies, continued his solid
play as he completed 20-of-36 passes for 235 yards with two TDs. Montana was picked off once
and was sacked five times by the Bulldogs.
Montana hit Ryan Grant on a 24-yard scoring pass and hooked up with Xavier Rush from 38-yards
out.
Tulane picked up its running game gaining 192 yards on 44 carries, led by Rob Kelley with 87
yards on just nine rushes for a 9.7 yard per carry average. Orleans Darkwa contributed 68
yards with a  2-yard TD run.
Green Wave senior kicker Cairo Santos connected on a 51-yard field goal.
Louisiana Tech's Andrew Guillot, the Bulldogs' starting H-back returned a second half punt for
about 70 yards for an apparent touchdown, but it was called back due to penalty. Guillot, who
played his high school ball for the Pope John Paul II Jaguars, returned four punts for 21
yards and caught one pass for two yards.
The Bulldogs' Malcolm Pichon, a red shirt sophomore, who played at Salmen High, was
credited with a pass breakup.
Tulane continues its three game road trip and travels to Syracuse for its next encounter. La
Tech 1-2 takes on the Kansas Jayhawks on the road.
