Pope John Paul II Lady Jaguars blank Archbishop Hannan in soccer


In a major clash of local soccer talent Saturday the Pope John Paul II Lady Jaguars blanked the previously unbeaten Archbishop Hannan Lady Hawks 2-0 at Lester Latino Field. Jessica Mahoney tallied a goal assisted by Claire Cross and Mahoney assisted Christina Cutura on a goal to spark the shut out victory. PJP II moved to 10-1-1 on the year, while Archbishop Hannan suffered its first loss and stands at 10-1-2. PJP II moved to 2-0 in district as the Lady Jags out shot the Lady Hawks 18-7. Pope's Alexis Molero posted the shutout with six saves, while Claire Cross was named the top defender. PJP II coach J. B. Mahoney said it was his club's best game of the season against a strong Hannan squad. "It was a complete victory with our team being strong in all facets. Mahoney went on to say that his team is playing at a high level and continues to improve. Last Thursday Pope John Paul II blanked McGehee 5-0 with Christina and Marlena Cutura netting one goal each with one assist each. Peyton Corwin, Jessica Mahoney and Bailee Bridges tallied the other Lady Jags' goals. Coach Mahoney and members of the team will be appearing on Northshore Sports this Thursday night from 7-8 from WOW Cafe in Covington.
